The Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning (EASL) is an alliance of 7 local councils (Boroondara, Knox, Manningham, Maroondah, Monash, Whitehorse and Yarra Ranges) hosted by Yarra Ranges council. EASL’s annual Learning for Sustainability Conference was held on February 27th at The Hawthorn Arts Centre, giving over 220 attendees an opportunity to connect and celebrate sustainability.
Cate McQuillen, 2025 National Environmental Educator and co-creator of dirtgirlworld and Get Grubby TV was this year’s Keynote presenter. Cate inspired attendees with an optimistic vision of “Growing up in the Naturehood”, circularity and regeneration. The 12 workshops on offer inspired and equipped delegates with skills, experiences and resources to promote and action change for sustainability in their local environment. Alongside the conference program, 38 exhibitors gave attendees a chance to see what is on offer to support their school or early childhood centres on their sustainability journey this year. Junkyard Beats got everyone up and moving before the interactive student panel discussion showcasing the challenges, optimism and passion shared by our young people.
The day was a huge success with 100% of survey respondents saying they would attend again and recommend the conference to someone else.
This event was sponsored by Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme.
